The History of Skim Boarding
I have always love hop-skip boarding, even though I am not a pro. Skim boarding is a sport that has evolved all over the many years it has been around. Skim Boarding has spread throughout the country, but this sport had simple beginnings on the coast of California and has grown into a huge sport with many companies that are all about it. This sport is probably older than you trust and has come a long way from its wooden beginnings on the coast of California.
There arent any ancient records of any skim boarding so as far as we go skim boarding started on the coast of California in Laguna Beach in the 1920s.
Lifeguards would ride on the pull back waves into deeper water. (History of skim boarding.ezinearticles.com) Then their boards were homemade, usually made out of plywood. Skim boarding hadnt really spread anywhere else and wasnt a sport yet. The old boards were longer and the ends were more box exchangeable than the skim boards today. These boards didnt go so far and some were actually used to skid across the sand. The older boards were also a lot heavier because they were wooden and couldnt do any tricks other than exactly riding. If you went out to far, which was about a foot deep, you would sink and it would labour a minute or two to accept it out of the sand. The sport didnt really spread until the 60s.
