In March 7th, 1969, Golda Meir was nominated by the Labor society to be visor minister of Israel. She was government minister of Labor from 1949 to 1956, a position which was her personal favorite.

On the death of Levi Eshkol in 1969, the ships company factions, in a compromise, chose her as prime minister.
